Vegas #2 and Honor

Two lovely butterflies designed by LadyShuttleMaker. Destined to be appliques for a pair of jeans. Vegas(top) was tatted in Flora #20 in Dark Pink, Pink, and Dark Yellow. Honor(bottom) was tatted in Finca #8 in Dark Geranium and Pale Yellow.

A bird? A plane? No, it's a....

Dragon! He sprang from my shuttles in about an hour. Definitely one of the coolest and most fun patterns I've done. More dragons in different sizes and colors are sure to follow. What would a bunch of dragons be? A herd? A flock? A school? Hmmm....

EDITED TO ADD: It's a flight! A group of dragons is known as a flight of dragons. Wow, I have waaaaaayy too much time on my hands today.

A couple pictures...

A dragonfly and a little doodle...
This dragonfly is Riet's pattern from Georgia's online tatting class. The SSSR technique I was finally able to wrap my brain around was the Fast and Easy Split Chain found of Jane Eborall's page. Tatman's page has a great photo pictorial, too. I know it says split chain, but Georgia's lesson states the ring is done the same way and it worked! So I guess I did it right! Like a lot of other folks, the fever to learn the SSSR came from seeing AnneB's dragon on eTatters. She used a different way of doing the SSSR. From the looks of it, both halves of the ring are completed before moving on to the next one, unlike Riet's. I'll have to work on that. I may be misinterpreting it. The dragonfly is tatted in a discontinued Flora color(no. 83) in size 10.

The little (quarter sized) doodle is and experiment with polyester thread, Signature size 30 in the color Mallard. I found it in a discount bin at Joann Etc. Very hard to work with! The rings were so hard to close even after adjusting my tension. The color is pretty though, it's not quite as dark as the scan shows.

A little bit of cross stitch, too! As I said in my previous post, I made a big OOPS! with my HDT so I went in another direction for a while. Here is one of the Halloween projects I'm working on.

There is a second one called 'Beware of Cat' that I finished to go with this, but it's in my craft tote that I left in my truck. I'm feeling too lazy to walk the whole 25 feet to go get it. Birds Of A Feather patterns are something of an acquired taste because some of them are a bit on the macabre side or (as some people say) grotesque, but I love them. I'm so bummed they no longer design cross stitch charts.

Happy August everyone! I've been catching up on everyone's blogs and the bunches of new ones that seem to have popped up. As I was clicking away reading them all, I glanced at the clock and realized two hours ahd gone by. I love it! So many new tatters and established tatters sharing their thoughts. Excellent.

As for me, I haven't done much lately. My Iris doily, Milena, hit a snag when my mind began to wander and I missed a ring and made a join in the wrong place. **cries** There's no way I'm going to cut it out and waste my precious HDT, so I laid it aside for the time being. Instead of tatting, I've been cross stitching. I'll add a pic to this post later. I've been feeling a bit Halloween-y. It's a Halloween themed cat from Birds Of A Feather. Sadly, BOAF no longer is no longer in the cross stitch business. I really love their patterns and hand dyed linens. See? More hand-dyed stuff! Maybe I'm an addict after all.

Back to tatting, today I made my first purchase from Tat's All. I ordered some of that lovely Accent rayon thread I read about on Jeff's blog. It will make some gorgeous snowflakes. I also found Pam Palmer's peacock pattern on eBay and am currently (impatiently) waiting for the mailman to deliver it. Can't wait to do that one. I think I will frame it and give it to my mom for Christmas. I also finally learned how to make a split chain and single shuttle split ring. Now that is a HUGE accomplishment for me. They've been the bane of my tatting existence. Now I feel like I moved to another level. Yay me!

Well, that's all for now. I'm going to meet a friend for lunch, then we'll spend about three hours in the bookstore. It's not like I don't have a teetering stack of new unread books already. What's a few more, right? This is definitely one of my favorite ways to spend the day. It might be kind of dangerous considering I have a zero balance on my Visa right now! Oh no! Just kidding, I'll be good. Maybe.
